Mom's Apple Crisp

Serves 4-6


  • 5 or 6 Granny Smith apples


  • 1 1/3 cup whole wheat pastry flour or gluten free flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
  • 5 cups rolled oats
  • 2/3 cup high heat oil such as avocado oil
  • 2/3 cup maple syrup
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon


Peel and slice the apples. Lightly grease a 9 x 13-inch glass baking pan. Evenly spread the apples in the prepared pan.

Preheat the oven to 350°F.

Make the topping: In a large mixing bowl sift the pastry flour with the sea salt. Add the rolled oats. Stir in the oil and mix well. And the maple syrup, vanilla and cinnamon and mix thoroughly.

Spread the topping on top of the apples and the bake uncovered at 350 F for 45 minutes.

Serve warm, topped with optional nondairy ice cream.
